When Sarah had to give up the job she loved last July, it was one of the hardest things she’d ever faced. Living with both MS and Arthritis, she’d spent months pushing through chronic fatigue, debilitating leg pain and infections that kept setting her back, until full-time work simply became impossible.

It was one of the toughest times I’ve been through. Going through all the physical pain, but also the mental impact of having to give up a job you love from circumstances outwith your control.

After her MS nurse at Queen Elizabeth Hospital suggested she reach out to Revive, Sarah’s first visit was a turning point. Over the following months, Sarah accessed fatigue management support, welfare and benefits advice that helped her progress her ADP application, and regular counselling sessions.

Small changes made a big difference. Having a better and more structured sleep schedule (from fatigue management classes) meant I woke up feeling genuinely rested for the first time in months.

Physical and mental health are so intertwined. If one improves, so does the other.

Now, less than a year on, Sarah is actively looking to return to work, this time with a clearer sense of what she needs.

Because of Revive I feel like now I can reassess my priorities and find a job role that fits my life better. The combination of financial and emotional support has definitely played a part in helping me feel able to do this and get my mind in the right place for going back to work.

She has also taken on her biggest physical challenge yet. At the weekend, Sarah and her husband Gordon took on the Kiltwalk Big Stroll – 14 miles from Clydebank to Balloch – to raise funds for Revive and have raised an incredible total of £1361!

Revive is a hidden gem and a vital resource, not just for people living with MS, but for their carers too. There are so many different areas they look at. The services they provide are fantastic.

Gordon has been my biggest supporter since day one. He sees firsthand how Revive has made a difference to both of our lives and helped me massively during the last 6 months so we decided to take on this challenge to help raise valuable funds.

My advice to anyone living with MS is to be kinder to yourself. Living with MS is not easy. Look at what Revive offers and show up for yourself.

There’s still time to support Sarah and Gordon’s Kiltwalk fundraiser for Revive MS Support.
